The Lake is Coming Back to Life After Two Decades

Once a favorite weekend spot for boating and picnics, Revisit Badkhal Lake in Faridabad had quietly faded into history after drying up in 2002. But in 2025, the lake is writing a remarkable comeback story. Located just 32 kilometers from Delhi, this historic water body is being revived under a ₹100 crore initiative through the Smart City Mission. For families in Delhi-NCR looking for a quick and refreshing getaway, Revisit  Badkhal Lake is once again becoming a destination worth rediscovering.

A Lake in Transformation

For the first time in over twenty years, Revisit Badkhal Lake holds substantial water. This has been made possible by a newly built 10 million-liter-per-day sewage treatment plant that releases around five million liters of treated water into the lake daily. Though water hyacinth continues to be a challenge, teams are actively working to clear the invasive plant using mechanical harvesters.

As of September 2025, the lake is about 80 percent restored. The marina and lakefront areas are 85 percent complete. Smart parking infrastructure has reached 82 percent completion, and embankment strengthening is ongoing. The entire project is expected to be completed by December 2025, including full removal of the water hyacinth.

Why Revisit Badkhal Lake is Ideal for Families

Natural Setting and Scenic Beauty

Nestled in the Aravalli Hills, Revisit Badkhal Lake offers a peaceful escape from city life. Spanning 42 acres, the lake is surrounded by greenery and open skies, offering a scenic backdrop for photography and family time in nature.

A Haven for Bird Watchers

Revisit Badkhal Lake is slowly reclaiming its status as a habitat for local and migratory birds. During winter months, families can spot species like purple herons, northern shovelers, white-throated kingfishers, and common teals. This makes a visit both educational for children and relaxing for adults.

Planning Your Visit

The lake is currently in its final phase of restoration. While not all recreational services are available yet, families can still enjoy nature walks, birdwatching, and picnicking. The sight of the restoration itself adds a meaningful dimension to the visit.

Best Time to Visit

October to March is the ideal time for a visit, with cooler weather and the arrival of migratory birds enhancing the experience. This is also the period when outdoor activities are most enjoyable.

What to Bring

Families planning a visit should carry picnic essentials, water bottles, mats for sitting, binoculars for birdwatching, sun protection, comfortable walking shoes, and cameras to capture the scenic beauty.

Nearby Attractions to Explore

For those looking to extend their outing, several other sites are located nearby.
